As Part of Dance International Glasgow with The Tramway & The Work Room
I am DELIGHTED to announce I have been awarded funds via The Tramway and The Work Room for Dance International Glasgow to DO my performance happening/exhibition FOUR CORNERS September/October here in Pollokshields, Glasgow, Scotland!!!
“Four corners” is a dance event and art exhibition happening on the Pollokshields streets. It reminds us that although we come from different geographic, political, social and cultural spaces we can still find ways to move together and create stories to celebrate.
Led by myself, community Artist/Dance Activist Kate E. Deeming, in partnership with children from Pollokshields Primary Schools and Filmmaker/Photographer Basharat Khan, “Four Corners” is a dance happening in 4 parts.
Pollokshields is the most diverse community in Scotland. Representing a wide array of faiths, ages and cultures residents share values of care which create a community cohesion for the area. In this time of division in the world, “Four Corners” shouts out what is possible when we find ways to move together.
Kate E. will develop dances with children from Primary Schools - Glendale, Gleann Dail Gàidhlig (Glendale Gaelic), St. Alberts, and Pollokshields Primary. These ‘anthems’ will reinforce the good and positive the children have within themselves, as a school and for the shared community.
Kate E. will be bopping about the Shields during October rehearsing dances, interacting with local residents, finding out what is on everyone’s playlist! She will tweet about this experience #PollokshieldsPlaylist @PollokshieldsP1
The children perform impromptu sessions on the streets of their dance anthems, documented by Basharat Khan.
See photographs exhibited in the ‘Pollokshields Art Museum’, our very own on street shop front gallery located throughout the Shields main shopping streets. Launch date Sunday 20 October 2019
