Welcome to my website! My name is Kate E. Deeming, my work will be familiar to many as the 'Dancing Christmas Tree (2020/21) when I dressed as a Christmas tree and danced hundreds of miles for joy and funds for local primary schools. I have also been noted as the Disco Chicken, the Danstronaut, the Boogie Unicorn and The Broomielaw Dancing Queen. And, most recently, as the Dancing Lemon! I am an artist who works in communities, who uses dance to make good things happen! My work has spanned decades and continents, you can find more about me here!
Man comes up to me mid-pirouette “Did you ever think about chi”? he asks. This random exchange is pretty usual for me during my Clyde-side dances. “Chi“? It’s time to focus on our youth. “We’re already too youth obsessed!” you might say, and rightly so. Except that I would argue that the mainstream (media) focus given to ‘youth’ is not about ‘being young’ at all, but more about being fast, sexy, unlined, unlived, and (to be honest) uninteresting. This is not youth this is Stepford Wives extension re-branded for a mass audience. I would hope that even those in the under-20 age bracket would see beyond, to live more, better and
